Why Does Anti-Joy Ask For Songwriters' Real Names?
Why Does Anti-Joy Ask For Songwriters' Real Names?
Updated over a year ago

Great news! Streaming services are now acknowledging the importance of giving credit where it's due, including providing information on the songwriters for each track.

Usually, songwriters are credited by their actual names, rather than their stage names, rapper names, or band names.

It's perfectly fine to use a stage name as an artist. However, keep in mind that while your stage name will be prominently displayed, your real name will be visible in the credits or lyrics section for listeners to see.

For example, see the Queen song "Don't Stop Me Now" on Spotify (here). As you would expect, the artist names are listed as:

  • Queen

However, if you look at the credits for that song on Spotify (here's how), you'll notice those artists' real names are listed as songwriters. Their real names are, respectively:

  • Brian May

  • Freddie Mercury

See the screenshot from Spotify below.
